T1 & T2 TRANSIT FAQs
A T1 movement is generally used to move non-Union goods between Common Transit countries while customs duty and taxes remain suspended.
The declaration is submitted through NCTS and receives an MRN.
T1 normally applies to non-Union goods. T2 is used in specific circumstances for goods with Union status moving between points in the Union customs territory through a Common Transit country.
We will check the goods status and route before preparing the declaration.
NCTS is the New Computerised Transit System used to manage Common Transit movements.
Once a valid declaration is accepted, the system issues a unique Movement Reference Number that identifies the journey.
A transit declaration does not automatically replace the export declaration at departure or the import declaration at destination.
The declarations required depend on the route, goods status and customs procedure.
A guarantee is normally required to cover the potential customs debt while duties and taxes are suspended.
The holder of the procedure must have suitable guarantee arrangements in place before the movement starts.
Under current NCTS arrangements, the driver must have access to the MRN, which can be provided electronically or as a barcode.
A paper document may still be useful for some movements or contingency situations.
