New customs clearance page helps EU hauliers prepare for Great Britain crossings

EU hauliers planning deliveries to Great Britain can now find route-specific customs support through the new Instant Clearances EU hauliers page. It brings the available services and enquiry form together, making it easier to explain a movement and request the right help before travelling.

The page covers UK import declarations, GB Entry Summary Declarations, transit paperwork and guidance on Goods Movement References. It also identifies key arrival points, including Dover, Eurotunnel, Hull, Immingham, Teesport and Newcastle / Port of Tyne. Hauliers can provide their port, crossing date and service requirements in one enquiry. Visit the EU hauliers page.

Check the requirements for the actual journey

Customs arrangements should be checked against the direction of travel and the procedure being used. An import declaration, a safety and security declaration and a vehicle movement reference serve different purposes. Asking for one does not automatically arrange the others.

For EU-to-Great-Britain imports, safety and security declarations have generally been required since 31 January 2025, subject to specific waivers. This is an existing requirement that hauliers should build into their journey planning. HMRC explains the EU import ENS requirements.

Send the details before the crossing

When contacting the team, start with the arrival port or terminal, expected crossing time and a clear description of the goods. Include the commercial and transport documents already available, and explain whether help is needed for a single shipment or recurring deliveries.

If an importer, freight forwarder or another agent has already arranged part of the paperwork, say what has been completed. Agreeing responsibilities early helps everyone understand which declarations and references remain outstanding.

Planning an EU-to-Great-Britain delivery? Tell Instant Clearances about your movement and ask the team to confirm the support required for your route.
